Bub unleashes the dark, grungy single and video ‘Another Girl’

Tāmaki Makaurau band Bub return with a raw and furious new video for Another Girl, a track hailed by The Spinoff as “angry and dark,” digging even deeper than their previous emotionally tuned-in songs.
Shot in the legendary Flying Nun basement in the heart of Karangahape Road, the video channels the song’s heavy energy through stark imagery, sharp editing, and performances that hit like a weaponised softball bat.
Produced by Annabel Keane, with D.O.P Lara Gamil and Camera Assistant Zanique Eilers, the clip is a riot of broken glass, blurred neon, and fierce femininity. Jinal Jasani’s make-up adds striking visual texture, and Jamie-Lee Smith brings it all together with a magical edit.
The video features Bub and The Coven — a choir of powerful women, artists, and allies. The Coven is Chelsea Nikkel, Jasmine Balmer, Meg Bermudez, Geo Bidois, Phoebe Adams, Zammia Weatherall, and Vonnie Veen-Grimes. Filling in for the band is Ruby Walsh on synth and Thea Doyle on drums, and of course Dan Barrett (ride or die) on bass.
“The subject of this song is difficult for me to talk about, so I wanted to make something strong and powerful — and have The Coven behind me for support, and a small crew of GCs so I wasn’t so exposed. And Annabel was so on board when I wanted to smash stuff — she even made a sugar glass car window! Genius.” — Priya Sami
Another Girl is a fierce sonic and visual anthem — a ritual of release, where pain is smashed and turned into power.
Gabi Lardes of The Spinoff says about Another Girl: “It is angry and dark, and while all Bub songs feel emotionally tuned in, this one digs deeper. For Another Girl, The Coven joined Sami…It was in the layering of the vocalists, divided into high, medium and low notes over the stage and microphones that the song got its power…I was so struck by the song I asked Sami its name on my way out.”
Bub fans in Tāmaki Makaurau, you’re in luck – they are playing an instore at Flying Out Records in Karangahape Rd this Saturday June 7th at 2pm.
