After three years together as an 8 piece band, Pōneke based Neo Soul collective Fine Wine Social Club have released their long-awaited debut body of work, Fermentations of the Flower.

Fermentations of the Flower consists of two staples from Fine Wine’s beloved live performances, well known to their dedicated Wellington fanbase who have demanded the two tunes be released since the very first time they were performed. Recorded, Mixed and Mastered all by Dan Goodwin at Massey University Studios Wellington, this EP solidifies Fine Wine’s presence among their fellow peers in the Pōneke music community. “This song will come out!” – Jack McCoubrie (Lead Singer), 2024(ish).

The first track on the record Nice High would have to be one of the most recognisable Fine Wine tunes, a fixture at every show since the band’s formation in 2022. Despite ever changing from performance to performance, Nice High has been solidified for streaming as a cruisy yet soulful jam, complete with an ear bending sax solo from Will Hanlon, horn reinforcements from Leo Read and Tomas Metz, combined with Rhodes chords with too many notes courtesy of Jack Hegarty.

Following close behind comes fan favourite Dr G. Performed in the key of G, Dr G is a heartfelt but energetic piece that opens in iconic syncopated 16th note fashion by Fine Wine’s rhythm section MVP Jonathan Stolk, locked in by bassist Toby Sussex. It builds into an energetic, heartfelt piece that is brought home in an emphatic unison cry of Cause I’m Mr Lonely by lead vocalists Jack McCoubrie and Brittany Forde, with angelic string lines woven through the vocals by Mana Waiariki.

To celebrate finally setting these two songs free into the world, Fine Wine will host a headline single release show at San Fran, Wellington on September 3rd, 8pm, as part of Eyegum Free Wednesdays (Free entry, 18+).

Fine Wine also be appearing during the pre show at World of WearableArt, TSB Arena, Wellington from the 18th of September – 5th October.
