Four‑piece experimental rock band Crying Ivy return with their sophomore single Respirator, a release that sees the group push further into new genres and styles of music. Paired with its B-side Chaperone, the single highlights the band’s dynamic range and evolving songwriting, shifting from hazy, calm instrumentation into moments that border on noise rock – a contrast that mirrors the breadth of their live performances.

Respirator explores the idea of a “crutch”, or the last legs of a failing relationship, reflecting on the tendency to appeal to everyone at the expense of one’s own needs. The track captures the tension between holding on and letting go, both emotionally and sonically.

To celebrate the release, Crying Ivy will perform a single‑release show on 28 February 2026 at Whammy Bar, Auckland, joined by support acts Text2Speech and Fork. Tickets are now available from Under The Radar.

With more new material on the horizon, Crying Ivy continue to establish themselves as a band to watch.
