Erase Everything kick off 2026 with New Year New Idea (Spiritual Slum Remix) ahead of appearances at Gathering Shadows (this Friday at Valhalla, Te Whanganui-a-Tara) and Sunreturn’s annual Beach Party (January 31st, Bethells Beach Cafe, Te Henga) – tickets are available from Undertheradar.
ERASE EVERYTHING – NEW YEAR NEW IDEA (SPIRITUAL SLUM REMIX)

New Year New Idea was a standout on the Glass Souls EP for its quieter tones and hushed vocals, the New Year New Idea (Spiritual Slum Remix) turns that on its head. Paul Bond, who helms the Melbourne darkwave act Spiritual Slum, has reconstituted the original by using motorik electronic drums, bubbling bass and delayed synthesis.
“We love Spiritual Slum and have been friends with Paul for over 20 years,” notes Angelo. “We didn’t give him any instructions for the remix, the trust was there.”
“When I first heard the original I was blown away by how beautiful it was,” recalls Paul. “From start to finish it’s a really great song with powerful lyrics and great structure.”
“The chorus for me was the part I wanted to pay homage to with the haunting backing vocals. I also loved the swirling guitars which I wanted to keep. Then I used Elektron gear for the beat and the classic Roland Alpha Juno and Ensoniq ESQ (my usual go to’s) for everything else. Once I got the master back from the brilliant Morgan Wright (Acopia) I was stoked on how it sounded. I’m honoured that the EE lads gave me the opportunity to be a part of the track’s history.”
Hearing the finished version, Angelo says the band was floored. “Paul really took it to a new place, this version and it blew our minds.”
Catch Erase Everything this Friday at Night One of Gathering Shadows, Pōneke’s biggest mini goth festival at Valhalla. The band are locked in for the upcoming Sunreturn’s annual Beach Party (January 31st, Bethells Beach Cafe, Te Henga) – tickets are available from Undertheradar.
