Ding Dong Lounge Announces 2025 Band Competition

Auckland’s Ding Dong Lounge has opened entries for its annual Band Competition, running October–November 2025. The multi-stage event invites original Auckland-based bands (18+) to compete across four heats, two semi-finals, and one grand final for career-launching prizes and industry recognition.

Heats will take place on October 3, 4, 24, and 25. Judges will select two bands from each heat to advance to the semi-finals on November 14 and 15. From there, four finalists will compete in the grand final on November 29. Entry deadline is Friday, September 19. Bands must be 18+ and Auckland-based to apply.

The winning band will receive a professionally produced single by Dave Rhodes Productions (Devilskin, Blindspott, Head Like A Hole), a music video by Dave Thomson of Imaginary Friends (Shepherds Reign, Alien Weaponry, The Boondocks), custom artwork by Barny Bewick of Indium Design, and promotional support from Phantom Billstickers, ACT UP Entertainment, Muzic.NZ, and Ding Dong Lounge. Additional prizes include JB Hi-Fi vouchers, venue hire, and instrument servicing from Ion Guitar Works.

“The prize package gives the winning band everything they need to release their first single professionally,” says event organiser Andrew Treeby. “But it’s also about connection. Bands meet here, build relationships, and often go on to play bigger shows together. It’s a launchpad for both music and community.”

Previous winners include Grapehouse (2024), Blindr (2023), and Lost Vessels (2022). All participants receive discounted gear servicing and mentoring opportunities. Entry fee is $35 per band.
