Had you heard of Love Party before now?
If not, then they’ll instantly become your new favourite on repeat.
Love Party is Wellington husband and wife duo, Kate Yesberg (vocals, bass) and Dayle Jellyman (vocals, guitar) and as most know, duos are unmatched and can pull some pretty impressive tricks out of the bag, as good as any three, four or five piece.
Love Party are also unapologetically unique in what they create, and it shows. WOW! Is their debut album. Recorded at Dr Lee Prebble’s Surgery studio (in Newtown) with their friend Cory Champion on drums, and it’s a nothing short of impressive.
If the B-52’s, Devo and Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age) created a supergroup, Love Party would be it.
From opening track, Wow It’s So Beautiful, which is unbelievably catchy and lyrically brilliant. It’s such an upbeat and rocking track, it’ll have you head bopping immediately.
Blending punk rock pop with plenty of distortion, synthesizers and endless energy, Love Party are addictive and have created music that is for everyone and instantly puts you in a good mood. How could you not be smiling and singing listening to a track like Oh My. Catchy tempo, fun and delightful lyrics, insanely catchy tune.
But can I pick a favourite? Well, no, not really, but coming in really close has to be Breathe In. The melody alone is great. It has a solid tempo and those harmonies? Really simple, but such a great song overall. So much to like and easily a good choice for a closer too. It’s a song that sticks with you long after it ends.
Another has to be Moonbaby. That riff is so simple but driving. I love how there is no crazy tempo changes, but everything is in its place, and again, Love Party have a great lyrical brilliance that isn’t complex, but manages to combine fun and easy going, but enough to still make you think.
Hearing is believing, but I promise you, you will enjoy every nanosecond of this the first and hundredth time you listen, because it will be on repeat.
What a fun and solid debut from a duo that had already been going places with their insane talents but have now cemented themselves further into the music stratosphere.
Brilliant.
