Joass’ rich vocals shine on the track, with a warm, grounded sound. Connecting on their own memories of childhood, Joass co-wrote young & free with RnB artist Tonyo and Dark Pop singer/songwriter Myah Eve who he met in the SOLE Music Academy Artist Development Program. Joass and Tonyo co-produced the track with additional production and mixing by Will McGillivray. The artists’ tastes blend seamlessly, creating a fun, campfire sound and a chorus you’ll want to sing from light to dark.

young & free is a long time coming from Luca Joass, who’s been deep in the Aotearoa music scene since before he was even born. In 2001, you would have found his pregnant mother playing fiddle next to his dad at staple Wellington Irish Pub Molly Malone’s in the Celtic-Folk band Hobnail (formerly The Hobnail Boots). Naturally, music was a key part of his life growing up and Joass keenly took to playing guitar as soon as he was big enough to hold one. As a teenager, Luca was likely to be found busking his heart out in the Wellington suburbs. Now, He resides in Christchurch, developing his music career whilst running his own video production company Neato Productions.

Having finally released his debut single to the world, Luca will be celebrating the release of young & free at Darkroom, Christchurch on Wednesday 10th September.
